Background Story

Undeniably one of the most on trend forms of exercise, celebrated by celebrities and sportspersons alike, The Pilates Method, started by Joseph Pilates, has created life fitness benefits and limitless potential for followers and practitioners across the globe.

Joseph Hubertus Pilates (1883 – 1967) was a German physical trainer, writer, and inventor. He is credited with inventing and promoting the Pilates method of physical fitness. He lived in England, Germany and then eventually America, dedicating his life to fitness.

After meeting his wife in 1925, Joseph and Clara Pilates established a devoted following in the local dance and performing-arts community of New York. Well-known dancers such as George Balanchine, who arrived in the United States in 1933, and Martha Graham, who had come to New York in 1923, became devotees and regularly sent their students to the Pilates for training and rehabilitation. His exercise regimen, built flexibility, strength and stamina. Their studio on 8th Avenue in New York became a place of importance to all high society women who wanted to train in the Pilates method.

In his early life Joseph Pilates suffered from many illnesses. He focussed on strengthening and changing his own mental and physical wellbeing and then offering solutions from his unique training methods to others. He dedicated his life to the study and practise of Contrology, gymnastics, yoga, martial arts, boxing, body building, animal movement study, posture and breathing techniques to create the Pilates method. It provides limitless potential for individuals to improve their wellbeing. 

Pilates is practised and studied worldwide to this day by men and women of all ages and abilities.

REBA Pilates

Our in-house training has been built on our belief, research and practise of Pilates and all its associated forms of fitness and movement. We tailor personalised Pilates to individuals, duets and private groups. We run weekly timetabled classes.

 

Pilates works on the principle of low-impact, controlled movements. The body enters a sense of balance by conditioning and re-conditioning muscles. Individuals build strength, flexibility and mobility. Life practise and regular sessions enable clients to see and feel real results. The mind and body connection created by Pilates can offer relief from stress, encourage better self-awareness and empowerment and regenerate both internal and external physical and mental performance.

 

Our studio offers endless Pilates training opportunities with limitless potential. A diverse range of equipment from mat, small and studio equipment, such as power-rings, balance-ball, or rollers, to name a few, or to more unique wall equipment and varied reformer machines. We welcome you to our Pilates family to experience the potential for better health.

Any personal Pilates training sessions/programs will be created for  individuals with planning and tuition from our experts. They will assess the relevant practise based on goals, physical performance, contraindications or injuries before and at every session.

When attending mat group classes, all equipment is provided for you. 

Health screening and checks are essential to make sure members are safe, appropriately taught and monitored. Please complete the form if you are attending REBA classes or personal training and have been requested to do so by one of our experts.
